Creative Engineering

Imagination + Integration = Engineering

Our creative engineering approaches ensure that you get a unique solution for your project, one that will grow and adapt with your business. We find ways to turn a downside into an upside and a limitation into a new possibility. All the high-tech applications in the world are worthless without a creative solution for implementing them. Good engineering is an art, and at RDA we think creativity is just as important as technical know-how when it comes to meeting design challenges. Here are some examples of our innovative approaches to solving problems:

Cost Reduction

For a recent project, one of our clients had a very limited budget, and an equally limited construction schedule. RDA, together with the CM, realized that if we could reduce the amount of sheetmetal ductwork to be installed, we could solve both issues. Since this client had extensive technology requirements and needed a raised access floor, we recommended an underfloor air distribution scheme for their HVAC system.

This system concept substantially reduced the amount of duct work needed on the project, and saved the client construction costs and time. Since there was no need to wait for duct work to be installed, once the raised flooring was installed, the architectural finishes were started immediately. RDA’s creative solution allowed the client move in on time, and the project
was constructed within the budget allocation, a huge success for the client as well as the design and construction teams.

Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company
We were among the first engineers in New York City to utilize electronic totalization devices on submeters in an effort to reduce electrical utilization charges.

Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc.
We assisted Morgan Stanley Information Technology Group in the development of an alternative cabling system eliminating the need for a proprietary vendor. This cable saved millions of dollars in installation costs and ongoing monthly maintenance charges.

Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc.
We worked with Morgan Stanley Real Estate to structure a lease deal for the shared cost of a new 1,000 ton chiller to be utilized by Rockefeller Center and Morgan Stanley. This solution provided a mutual financial benefit to both the tenant and the Landlord.

Bear Stearns & Co.
We conceived the idea of utilizing a Data Center air conditioning unit that could be served both by chilled water and condenser water so that reliable backup could be achieved in the event of a total plant/system failure.

Mitsui Data Center
For backup cooling, should building condenser water system fail, we negotiated with Landlord ability to install a heat exchanger and pumps connected to the chilled water.
